Foundationals
Quality basics are a crucial part to a safe, happy, and healthy piercing. The worldwide professional piercing accepted standards for biocompatibility in body piercing is implant-grade titanium, 14kt or higher solid gold alloyed for biocompatibility, unalloyed niobium, or glass that is lead-free. However even those come with a hefty * (material details below)
-
Additionally, externally threaded jewellery, jewellery with a low-quality finish, or made of subpar materials, will negatively impact your healing piercing.
-
Material details
That hefty * on materials. It's very easy to call something implant-grade titanium, but what is true, implant-grade titanium, for example:
-
Titanium that is:
- Ti6Al4V ELI – ASTM F136 compliant or ISO 5832-3 compliant
- Ti6Al7Nb ELI – ASTM F1295 compliant or ISO 5832-11 compliant
-
The ASTM (American Society of Testing and Materials) dictates strict criteria for titanium to meet for biocompatibility. Our brands that we stock focus on this transparency. (quality assurance below)
-
Second to material quality, a mirror-polish finish is essential on jewellery in the body. A rough surface finish can cause irritation and damage within the piercing channel. This rough finish also leaves room for excess accumulation of bacteria and bio-film.
-
Thirdly, we stock only internally-threaded or threadless jewellery designs. This means the edge of the post has a smooth finish and glides through fresh (and healed) piercing channels with ease. As opposed to externally threaded which has the rough screw-mechanism on the exterior of the post, scratching and damaging the internals, ow!

Quality Assurance
With the recent surge in popularity, there's a lot of jewellery out there now advertised as implant-grade, ASTM, or hypoallergenic. Admittedly, "implant-grade" alongside other terms has become something of a buzzword in recent years. Which is where we heavily focus on working with suppliers that promote transparency and accountability. Any of the companies we work with have mill certificates available - their titanium (or gold) has been independently tested and verified against the ASTM standard and we know exactly what the makeup of the material is. Not some "mystery metal." So rest assured our jewellery is implant-grade and hypoallergenic.
-
Mill certificates available on request.
-
We also find ourselves becoming brand-ist with the now-exploding scene of body piercing and jewellery. We carefully select our brands against strict criteria. We look for high-quality stones and jewels, securely set, in high-polished verifiable material. We strive to use companies that support ethically sourced jewellery, with ethical manufacturing.
-
All our jewellery comes with lifetime manufacturers guarantees. If any part of your jewellery breaks and you return the faulty piece we can ship it back to our supplier to have it repaired or replaced. To enquire about a warranty repair please email us firstly.

Jewellery sizing
Most body jewellery will feature two key options; gauge / thickness, and length or diameter.
-
Jewellery such as labrets and barbells are measured from inside end-to-end. This means excluding the disc, ball, or accent ends.
-
Rings are measured by internal diameter.
-
We ensure we record sizing of jewellery we use in all fresh piercings for future record and jewellery purchases, as well as informing you at the time.
-
Below are some handy graphics for understanding body jewellery.

Labrets and barbells, especially threadless ones, are easy to change. For healed piercings only! If you're struggling, a pair of latex / nitrile gloves can provide extra grip.
-
For high-movement placements or piercings regularly knocked it can be worth checking ends for security once a month, for example.
-
Some styles of jewellery, such as seam rings and captive-bead rings are generally best installed by a professional.

An implant-grade, ASTM F136, titanium threadless labret from Junipurr:
- Verifiable material
- Polished length, smooth and comfortable
- rounded top, comfortable to put through a piercing channel
- Threadless for security and allowing a wide range of accent options

A mystery metal labret:
- Unknown material, no assurance it won't react within the body. One of the more common metal allergies is a nickel allergy, one of the more common fillers in lower quality jewellery is nickel
- Rough finish along the length. Including some harsh tool-marks around the top!
- External threading which can damage the piercing channel as the rough end goes through
- Obvious bio-film build-up on the threading
